A NAIL technician is aiming to start her own business, following a silver medal in a national competition.
Eve Booth, 19, of Manor Park South, Knutsford, and a former pupil of Knutsford High School, came second at the WorldSkills UK Nail Enhancement 2012 held at the NEC, Birmingham.
She qualified for the competition – pitting the top 10 UK nail enhancers against each other – after coming through a similar test in Liverpool against around 100 people.
Her efforts – demonstrating her flair and creativity with acrylic nails – got her through to the challenging Birmingham event.
She said: “It was quite stiff competition and it was nerve racking.
“The standard of completion is so high, but I’m really pleased with the result of my efforts and I am happy as I know I gave it my best.”
After leaving school, Eve studied a two-year course in beauty therapy at Trafford College, followed by a year’s training as a nail technician.
Eve has both her college tutor Jackie O’Sullivan – who put her forward for the competitions – and her mum, Georgina, to thank for cultivating her interest in the industry.
She is currently working part-time at a nail salon in Timperley, near Altrincham, and her burning ambition is to become self-employed and own her own nail salon.
“My mum talked me into nails and I really enjoyed it,” she said.
“I want to get a good client base and then, hopefully, have my own shop with people working for me in the future.”
