A GOLF Club is driving ahead with a charity initiative that gives disabled people the chance to enjoy a day at the race tracks.

High Legh Golf and Country Club is hosting a ‘Walk in the Dark’ on November 30 organised by Speed of Sight who are contributing towards the production of 10 specially adapted race cars.

The first of the cars will be on display at the club and was used by three times Guinness world blind land speed record holder Mike Newman.

He said: “Speed Of Sight Motor Sports evolved from my desire, as a small boy, to drive a racing car.

“The difficulty for me in realising that dream was the fact I am blind.

“However, my passion for speed stayed with me into adulthood and on my record-breaking travels I’ve met a lot of people with varying disabilities who have similar dreams and who would dearly love to experience the thrill and excitement that up until now a disability has deprived them of.”

The walk is in pairs and costs £8 per person.

It includes an after walk supper and certificate presentations.

The suggested sponsorship amount is £50.
