‘We are nearly there,’ says compensation campaigner

SOME residents in Knutsford and Mobberley are still awaiting their compensation payouts from Manchester Airport.

Manchester Airport Group agreed a £1 million compensation pot in June in relation to the second runway, and as a result almost 600 homeowners in the two areas are each to receive around £1,500 from the historic deal.

The claim forms which were sent out to the households are being processed in batches of 30 or 40 at a time.

Campaigner Jeff Gazzard said some forms were missing information.

Jeff said: “The airport has told me they have paid 520 people and there are half a dozen which are going through.

“There are 10 or 12 who I am dealing with at the moment, and I tried to speak to the majority of them last week, but only managed to speak to two of those 12.

“I’m afraid I’m not going to be ringing up the airport asking for individual responses for each case, but in a couple of weeks it should all be cleared up.

“We are nearly there, though, and will be presenting the money to the schools and to the parish and town councils soon.”

MP George Osborne’s office told the Guardian that the first payments had not been made until September 1, and the forms which were originally sent out some of them have been returned to Mr Gazzard as they had not been signed or dated, or the bank details were incorrect.
