ONE of Knutsford’s Olympic torch bearers addressed the town’s Rotarians at their latest meeting.

Knutsford resident James Whittaker, who works for Peel Holdings, spoke to the meeting at the Smoker Inn in Plumley.

James, who carried the torch down King Edward Road and Canute Square as it passed through Knutsford spoke to the Rotarians about his charity work for the new Manchester Childrens’ Hospital.

Among other things he helped to raise nearly £2.5 million with a sponsored swim of 36 miles down the Manchester Ship Canal.

James has also competed in Iron Man events, and as such has faced many challenges in the past.

He was joined at the meeting by Lanisia Rhoen, who is a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar on exchange from Manchester University in Jamaica to study at the University of Manchester, where she is studying for a masters degree in Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship which is being sponsored by Rotary International.
