SUSPECTED vandals targeted three shops in Knutsford town centre.

They smashed shop windows at Kudos Interiors, Plain and Simple Windows and Brides of Cheshire, all in King Street.

Julie Botham, assistant sales designer at Plain and Simple Windows, said a replacement window would cost at least £1,000.

"We will have to replace the entire window and the strip with the name on it," she said.

"At first I thought it might have been a stone from a car but now I know it has happened elsewhere it must have been deliberate."

She said the firm's insurance company would not pay out for the damage. "I was a bit cross really because it seems like wanton vandalism," she said.

"There is no need."

Laura Welch, manager of Brides of Cheshire, said their new window had cost £400.

"Such vandalism is absolute madness," she said.

"It is very odd and I've no idea why it's happened. There's a CCTV camera nearby so the police have said they will look at that."

Staff at Kudos Interiors, which is currently closed, were unavailable for comment.

PC John Robinson, of Knutsford Police Station, said officers were investigating the incidents and confirmed that CCTV footage would be checked.
