Coronation Street viewers said evil Pat Phelan deserves his own spin-off about his reign of terror over the cobbles.

Fans of the ITV soap have been gripped for weeks as the sinister builder has been keeping Andy Carver (Oliver Farnworth) captive in a basement.

The plot took an even darker turn in Monday night’s double bill as it was revealed that Phelan has his sights set on another hostage – his old partner Vinny Ashford.

Viewers said on Twitter that there should be a separate programme about Phelan (Connor McIntyre).

One person tweeted: “The character deserves a spin-off show like Burnside and Beech from The Bill in the 90s.”

“Pat Phelan needs his own TV show,” said another, while one viewer joked that it should be “called phelan’s basement, a bit like wayne’s world”.

The episodes saw Phelan tell Andy that he would soon be meeting his “replacement”.

But viewers are not certain that Vinny will enter the basement without a struggle.

“I don’t think Vinny’s gonna go in that cellar without a fight, so hyped for Wednesday’s episode,” one fan tweeted.

Others urged the character to fight Phelan when the time came.

The prospect of Phelan having two prisoners also triggered plenty of jokes on social media, with people saying the twisted character would have half of Corrie under lock and key before too long.

“Think Pat’s gonna need a bigger basement,” said one person, while another joked: “The UN are soon going to have to parachute a team of hostage negotiators into what ever corner of Manchester Phelan’s cellar’s in #corrie.”

Will Phelan trap Vinny? Or is his plan about to unravel?

Coronation Street continues on ITV on Wednesday night.
