Chris Moyles could return to the airwaves with a breakfast show on commercial radio.

The former BBC Radio 1 host signed a “big money deal” with XFM on Wednesday, according to The Sun on Sunday.

The self-designed “saviour of Radio 1″ left the BBC in 2012 after eight years in the breakfast show slot, with listening figures peaking at 7.06 million.

A new morning show, starting in September, would see Moyles competing for listeners with current Radio 1 breakfast show host and new X Factor judge Nick Grimshaw.

A source told The Biz on Sunday: “He was enjoying not having all of the usual pressures and early starts that come with breakfast radio so bosses were well aware that they had to offer him a great deal to entice him back.

“He plans to spend the next two months developing ideas for the new show and how he wants the format to be.”

The show has been presented by Sony, Bafta and Comedy Award-winning comedian Jon Holmes since January 2013.
