The all-female Karim family have cooked their way to the semi-final of The Big Family Cooking Showdown after impressing the judges with a selection of exotic dishes.

They went head to head with the Dawes family in the BBC 2 show’s second episode on Tuesday as they faced a series of challenges, including concocting a full meal on a budget of £10 and creating a feast fit to impress the neighbours.

The trio presented an expert curry and a mouthwatering spiced savoury pie, which judge Rosemary Shrager described as “absolutely yummy”.

But while the Dawes also impressed with their Asian-inspired dumplings and gold-dusted pudding, their Brussel’s sprout topped pizza failed to stand out.

The Karims will now join last week’s winners the Charles family when the competition really hots up later in the series.

The show, which has been described as the BBC’s alternative to The Great British Bake Off, will change its broadcasting date to Thursday instead of Tuesday next week.

Meanwhile, the new Bake Off series will make it’s debut during next Tuesday’s 8pm slot on Channel 4.
