JOHN Godber’s classic comedy Bouncers is set for a return to the north west on Friday and Saturday – and if you’re lucky you’ll be allowed in.

The adaptation is being staged by Warrington-based Short Stop Productions who previously sold out two touring productions of the play in 2010 and 2014.

The thespians rehearse in Penketh and recently put on the play for residents for free as a thank you for letting them rehearse in the area.

Bouncers is an innovative comedy which was recently voted one of The National Theatre’s ‘Plays of the Century’ and involves just four actors playing almost 50 characters over the course of an evening at a northern nightclub in the mid 1990s.

It has been a huge success over the years with theatre goers and schools who often feature the piece on their syllabus to encourage young performers to try and convert different characters.

Seb Farrell is the director of Short Stop Productions and a former St Gregory’s RC High School pupil.

He said: “I first saw Bouncers, aged 15, while on my work experience at the Parr Hall in Warrington and it changed my views on theatre forever.

“It turned what I presumed was a predominately sophisticated and privileged world into something entirely different, something grittier, something real.

“Real life with all its twists and turns, all its ups and downs. There was no scenery, no costumes, no props and nowhere to hide.

“We can’t wait to share it with a Warrington audience again.”

Short Stop Productions have been producing theatre in the likes of art centres, pubs and schools in the north west since 2010.

Their aim is to reach people who find theatre inaccessible.
