A UNIQUE First World War armistice celebration table cloth is set to go under the hammer at a Knutsford auction house.

The cloth, which has a central panel with crowns surmounted by four needle worked flags, above a pair of crossed swords, is covered in approximately 170 pencil signatures majority embroidered in either blue or red.

The signatures include Edward Prince of Wales (later Edward the VIII), Field Marshal Douglas Haig, commander in chief of British armed forces, John F Pershing, Commander in chief of the United States of America army, Marshall Ferdinand Fosch, commander in chief of all allied armies on the Western and Italian fronts, Henry Brewkes, H Adam, Peter Gawthorne, A J Bailey, together with further signatures of commanding officers of the allied armies.

This table cloth originally belonged to Lieutenant colonel Alfred John Bailey of the 7th battalion of Lancashire Fusilier's, the embroidery was done by his wife Ethel Bailey.

This lot is accompanied by a quantity of research regarding Colonel Baileys career copies of photographs.
