AN ALLOSTOCK campaigner who fights for the rights of the elderly has pledged her support to an 87-year-old hoarder who is facing eviction.

Charlotte Peters Rock, visited May Appleton, who lives in Lostock Gralam, after she heard about her impending eviction.

May is now facing bailiff action following a three-year-battle with Weaver Vale Housing Trust over her collection of ‘treasured memories’, which are deemed to be a fire hazard.

May has lived in her house for 61 years with her three sons Brian, 61, Mark, 51 and Paul, 49.

Speaking to the Guardian, Charlotte said: “I came to support the family because I object to someone of May’s age being treated like this.

“Weaver Vale Housing Trust is a charity. Its rules state that it looks after its tenants. It seems that none of that is happening here.

“I am thinking of reporting them to the charity commission if this carries on and I have also contacted Graham Evans.

“I think that someone who has been a tenant as long as May should have special consideration.”

May, who has lived in the house for 61 years, has been told that bailiffs could come any time from Wednesday March 9 at 2pm.

When the Guardian went to May’s house on the first day of the eviction notice, the bailiffs had not arrived.

Judith Burbidge, Director of Neighbourhoods at Weaver Vale Housing Trust said: “Chester County Court upheld the possession order during a hearing on Monday 7th March. As this is an ongoing case we are unable to comment further at this time”.
