MP George visits a school on the up ...

KNUTSFORD’S MP has paid a special visit to a primary school.

On Friday students, parents, staff and governors at Peover Superior Primary School welcomed the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, MP for Tatton.

Mr Osborne visited the school to see first-hand for himself the improvements that have been made.

Earlier this year the school was placed in special measures by Ofsted. However, since then the school has made changes and ‘refreshed’ its leadership team of staff and governors in a bit to improve and progress.

Head teacher Lisa Hesmondhalgh said: “The most recent follow up visit from HMI concluded with the inspectors praising the school saying ‘leaders have responded with urgency and determination to the areas for improvement identified – and have raised expectations’.”

And Mr Osborne’s visit couldn’t have been better timed, coinciding with the school’s annual family picnic and sports day.

Mr Osborne took the time to speak to a number of children and parents as they enjoyed the glorious sunshine. He then toured the school, before being treated to a performance of Hakka and traditional maypole dancing by very excited children.

He then officially opened the sports day and encouraged the children to fully participate.

Opening the event, Mr Osborne said: “I have heard of the great improvements to the school and wanted to see these for myself.

“The head teacher and her colleagues have done a remarkable job.

“It’s a fabulous day and a pleasure to be able to be with you to officially open your sports day.”
