KNUTSFORD Tennis Club were in luck on Friday 13 June despite the ominous date as it launched its fundraising campaign.

The club is looking to replace three of its seven courts at a cost of £120,000, and is running a series of events to raise funds.

The first was held on Friday, when a fun tennis competition raised £1,000.

“The total raised by the event was amazing, and I couldn’t have done it without the hugely enthusiastic support of the members,” said event organiser Sue Jarrod.

“It’s such a great club to be part of, and is something very special in Knutsford.”

Following a popular tournament run by coach Mark Airey and won by Mrs George Brown, 40 ladies enjoyed a summer buffet served by club members.

A raffle was held with prizes donated by local businesses including Fryer’s Roses, Broadbent’s Fashions, Yankee Candle, Woods Butchers and Technotype.

The club is holding a 24-hour Tennis-A-Thon on July 4 and 5, with juniors and seniors playing continuously.

There is also an open day this Saturday, June 21 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and everyone is welcome.
