IT has been a record-breaking year for Knutsford’s Town Mayor.

As her mayoral year drew to a close, Knutsford Town Mayor Barbara Coan presented her chosen charities, Knutsford and District Lions Club and Cheshire Search and Rescue, with a total of £9,253.60 – £4,626.80 each – beating the previous record of £6080.

The funds were raised through a variety of events during Clr Coan’s mayoral year, including collections at the Artisan Market and Christmas Light Switch On, A May Day Meal at the Rose ‘N Crown, the Civic Ball at the Belle Epoque, a meal at Don Giovanni, and a raffle at the Town Council Christmas Markets.

An additional donation of £10,000 was made by Monkton Properties directly to Cheshire Search and Rescue.

“I am hugely thankful to the generous residents, businesses and visitors to Knutsford, without whom I couldn’t have raised such an amazing amount of money for my charities,” said Clr Coan.

“Being a Knutsfordian through and through, it has been a tremendous honour to be able to represent the town as mayor at the events I have attended, and I am overwhelmed that we have managed to raise so much money for my charities as a result of the community working together, which was one of my aims at the start of my mayoral year.

“I am delighted that this has been the case.”

Clr Coan also thanked the councillors, Town Clerk Adam Keppel-Garner, and her previous and currents PA’s Helen Dytham and Lisa Benskin, for their support throughout the year.

President of the Knutsford and District Lions Club Frances Miller and Chairman of Cheshire Search and Rescue Robert Davies MBE both offered their thanks to Clr Coan and everyone involved in the fundraising events for their efforts.
