THIS year’s May Day festival was of particular significance to a leading member of the procession.
After 38 years of service, Anthony MacDonald Smith is retiring from his role as Knutsford’s Town Crier.
The 77-year-old said he wanted to stay on for the 150th May Day, and now that the milestone festival is over, he is ready to hang up his hat.
Festival-goers will not be disappointed at next year’s May Day, however, as Anthony has handed the torch down to his son.
John MacDonald Smith is stepping into his father’s shoes and will become Knutsford’s new Town Crier.
