CELEBRATIONS to mark Knutsford’s 150th May Day begin on Saturday with the Crowning Glory exhibition at Knutsford Heritage Centre.
A glittering display of crowns, gowns and memorabilia will be on show until the end of June. Entry is free but the donations can be made towards upkeep of the centre – the heart of Knutsford's heritage.
“Our volunteers have worked very hard to stage the exhibition which celebrates the wonderful achievement of 150 years of Royal May Day in Knutsford,” said Val Bryant.
“But we couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our sponsors and town council.”
Knutsford Town Council has made a £500 donation.
“Knutsford Town Council is delighted to be helping the Heritage Centre to produce their Crowning Glory exhibitions,” said Clr Tony Dean, chairman of events.
“By basing the exhibition around the individual crowns made for former May Queens, it accentuates the importance of these annual celebrations to Knutsford families.”
Welcoming visitors to the centre is a special willow crown created by Juliette Hamilton Design. Juliette is a renowned designer who now specialises in weave and teaches willow courses at Arley Hall.
