Pony Club and Sid get fundraising off to a galloping start
11:00am Wednesday 26th March 2014 in News
YOUNG Mobberley riders have taken hold of the fundraising reins for pet charity Blue Cross.
Members of Mobberley Riding School’s Pony Club rallied together to raise over £600 through a variety of events, including a sponsored showjumping event, home-made jewellery sale and raffle.
The children presented Blue Cross Horse Co-ordinator Rebecca Johnson with the funds on Saturday afternoon and afterwards listened to a talk about the work the charity carries out.
Mobberley Riding School Manager Sarah Diggle said: “I am very proud of the group and how they really threw themselves into their fundraising challenge. They did so well and raised so much more money than I expected. Well done to all of them.”
Blue Cross receives no government funding and relies on the support of the public to continue its work helping unwanted, homeless, sick and injured pets.
The children chose the charity as recipients of their dedicated fundraising because of a beloved rescue horse at the centre called Sid. The five-year-old horse was being cared for by the Blue Cross in Staffordshire until he was taken on by Mobberley Riding School last summer.
He proved to be an instant hit with all of the children and has become a firm favourite at the school.
Rebecca said: “We were delighted to hear about the fundraising efforts of Pony Club members at Mobberley Riding School. We are so grateful to receive the funds and I’m also very happy to see Sid looking so happy and settled in his new home.”
