MILLINGTON-based charity The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust is appealing for people of all fitness levels to join them in 2014 for one of its many challenge events.

Each event will raise vital funds for the charity, which provides life-changing holidays in Cheshire for terminally- ill, disabled and disadvantaged children from the north west.

The charity has a programme of challenge events which will take place throughout the year, from skydiving to cycling 500 kilometres across Costa Rica – and everything in between.

On May 18 the charity will enter its largest team into the Great Manchester 10k. In 2013 Team CAFT was 100 runners strong, but this year it wants to smash that number.

CAFT is asking individuals and teams to join them, and last year local companies such as Subway Deansgate, AddPeople, Barclays and 1st Easy entered teams, turning the run into a fantastic staff team-building experience.

Individuals can run for CAFT for a £25 registration fee and a £100 fundraising target. Teams of five or more can register for £20 per person, with each team member having to raise at least £80.

The charity is also calling for people to take on a trekking challenge in Iceland in July. So far it has 19 walkers who have registered for this trek, which will see them hiking 55 kilometres over three days across lava fields, mountains and glaciers during a season with only two hours of darkness a day.

It takes place between July 2 and 6, there is a £99 registration fee and each person must pledge to raise a minimum of £1,699.

Jenny O’Hare, fundraiser at the Adventure Farm and the organiser of the Manchester 10k and the Iceland trek, said: “These are very different challenges but have one thing in common – they will involve amazing people working hard physically and emotionally to complete a challenge and raise funds for very special children.

“We have been running challenge events for many years, and last year a group of 20 brave individuals spent three weeks in the Himalayas trekking to Everest Base Camp.

“Not all challenges need to be that extreme, but all will give the participant a huge sense of achievement for taking themselves out of their comfort zone and helping to put smiles on the faces of children who have sadly known far too much hardship.”
